COLTSFOOT
Coltsfoot is a perennial herbaceous plant in the Asteraceae (daisy) family, native to Europe and parts of Asia. It is one of the first plants to bloom in early spring, often pushing through frozen soil before its own leaves even appear. It is easily identified by its bright yellow, dandelion-like flowers and its distinctive hoof-shaped leaves, from which it derives its common name. Historically used in teas and syrups as an expectorant to soothe dry coughs, wheezing, and bronchial congestion. The leaves have been used in poultices to treat skin inflammations, insect bites, and minor burns due to their high mucilage content. In many European cultures, the coltsfoot flower was a symbol of the returning sun and the end of winter.
